For engineers from abroad
Recognition of qualifications for migrant engineers
The Chamber of Engineers of Lower Saxony is the competent authority for the recognition of qualifications obtained abroad for the profession of engineer. So if you have acquired your university degree abroad and need a German-language engineering certificate for your applications, you can apply for this here. The document called “engineer certificate” or “Ingenieururkunde” is available at the Chamber of Engineers of Lower Saxony (Ingenieurkammer Niedersachsen). According to the Engineering Law of Lower Saxony the qualification for working in Germany as an engineer has to contain a certain level of knowledge. Foreign Universities are listed at the database of the Central Office for Foreign Education. If the University is a recognized institution, the foreign engineer is entitled to receive the document from the Chamber. Please fill in this form.
In 2016 the number of application procedures increased to 466 cases. The countries of origin of the applicants are in the Middle East, including Russia. About 30 Percent of the applicants came from Syria. Often they are well trained and the recognition is only a formality. It is more difficult when documents got lost or the universities are not listed in the directory.
There is a good chance to find a job in Germany for qualified engineers. The German or English language skills are important for a successful start into working life. The chamber of Engineers also is giving support to help finding internships in the companies. Please have a look at our Pinnwand.
